Product Description From memory formation to nocturnal therapy, neuroscience's newest discoveries about our dreams. Psychologists and philosophers have long grappled with the mysteries of dreaming, and now-thanks largely to recent innovations in brain imaging -neuroscientists are starting to join the conversation. In this groundbreaking book, award-winning journalist Andrea Rock traces the brief but fascinating history of this emerging field. She then takes us into modern sleep labs across the country, asking the questions that intrigue us all: Why do we remember only a fraction of our dreams? Why are dreams usually accompanied by intense emotions? Can dreams truly spark creative thought or help solve problems? Are the universal dream interpretations of Freud and Jung valid? Accessible and engaging, The Mind at Night shines a bright light on our nocturnal journeys and tells us what the sleeping mind reveals about our waking hours.

An Interesting Read!!! June 19, 2010 Jack-E 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like this book because it added personal testimony and commentary from the researches perspective. Most books give a brief recap of the study or theory and they do this without the perception of specialist which conducted the research. It is an easy read and very informative.
Just an Astonishingly Good Book June 18, 2010 Paul M. Higgins (Saint Petersburg, FL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is a model of science writing. Not dumbed down OR heavily laden with jargon, absurdly interesting and informative ... I literally cannot think of a single flaw.
Comprehensive March 16, 2010 faizdude A very comprehensive list of dream studies. It's a good read if you want to understand the role of dreams in your life, from various scientific disciplines.
Entertaining, an easy read for the layperson. November 15, 2009 TheCrawlingEye (Vancouver, WA) Overall, a very good intro to sleep science. The author covers a variety of different theories on dreaming and related processes in the brain. Very interesting, with an excellent Notes section as well as an excellent Bibliography.
This is What Great Science Writing Should Be August 25, 2009 Amy Greenblatt (South Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Entertaining, engaging, well written and fun. The Mind at Night summarizes what we know about why we dream, why animals dream, how we found out about what we know, and what's been happening lately in the field.
