Product Description
The Mindful Way through Depression draws on the collective wisdom of four internationally renowned cognitive therapy and mindfulness experts, including bestselling author Jon Kabat-Zinn, to help you break the mental habits that can lead to despair. This authoritative, easy-to-use self-help program is based on methods clinically proven to reduce the recurrence of chronic unhappiness. Informative chapters reveal the hidden psychological mechanisms that cause depression and demonstrate powerful ways to strengthen your resilience in the face of life's misfortunes. 3 out of 5 stars I want to help you   December 2, 2008
Andrew Christian (Marietta, GA)
I struggled with depression for 15 years. I started getting depressed when I went to college and started living on my own with no supervision. I started drinking and began having premarital sex. These behaviors escalated as most empty, immoral behaviors generally do. My problems never got better, they only got worse. Despite knowing my behavior was wrong, I continued to live a sinful lifestyle. That all changed when I realized that I was a poor, wretched, hopeless sinner that deserved death from a just and holy God. Once you are broken and are deeply sorry for your wicked ways, and then ask Jesus Christ for forgiveness, then and only then can the grip of depression begin to release it's grasp.
Depression doesn't go away immediately. I didn't stop taking my medications. But what does happen is that you have someone to talk to about it. You also have God's Word to inspire you and lift you up. I find that the more I pray and read my Bible, the less influence depression has on me. I trust in Jesus and know that eventually I will no longer need the medication and will be "cured" of my depresison.
*** Please remember, don't stop taking your meds. I can't stress that enough. It's not that I am not sure of my salvation or "cure", it's that I am not sure of yours. ***
Remember, realize it's our sinful nature that makes us depressed.
Repent and turn away from your sins,
Relinquish control of your life over to Jesus Christ with all your heart,
Read your Bible and pray everyday.
God Bless!

Sarah Shikitao-Brown's book, "Tao Cycle Therapy" will push you right through the door and then this book, "A mindful way through depression" will be there waiting for you on the other side to give you a hug and reinforce what you just learned.
Tao Cycle Therapy: Natural Happiness via Self Directed Cure for Chronic Anxiety & Depression [Updated 2008 3nd Edition]
A perfect synergistic combo of books. All you should need.

Yes I agree, excellent book in the Mindfulness Genre. As the lady before me has, I too will also recommend Tao Cycle Therapy by Sarah Shikitao-Brown. Between these two books, I can't think of a better foundation. Tao Cycle Therapy: Natural Happiness via Self Directed Cure for Chronic Anxiety & Depression [Updated 2008 3nd Edition]

This is a very good book. I would call this the "Asian Self-Help" vein. From this same vein I would also highly recommend Sarah Shikitao-Brown's book, both are good honorable books.
