5 out of 5 stars When the pain was overwhelming, this book helped   November 4, 2009
Aiden Forrest
For along time, after my divorce, I didn't want to deal with everything I was feeling. When I was finally ready, I sought out books and found this one. I read it over one weekend and felt so much better after putting it down. For me, the chapter on letting go was the most powerful.

I think, most of all, I was afraid of what the future would be like. I never imagined I would be alone. Several times, the author spoke to my fears and was reassuring that, not only was I not the only person who feared the unknown, but gave useful advice on how to calm that fear down.

I have to admit, this book played a vital role in me feeling better and being able to move on.

For any other men out there who are going through the same thing, I can tell you it does get better. I also recommend a book called Dating After Divorce - How to Meet New Women, Start a Sexual Relationship, and Have Fun Again... for when you're ready to let someone new into your life.

There is light at the end of a painful divorce.

2 out of 5 stars Harsh reading in the early stages of divorce   October 19, 2009

I bought this book based on glowing reviews. The book makes it sounds like you just need to read/work through the stages and the exercises, or go to their seminars, and VOILA! You'll be healed, better than ever. The content is excellent, but it has too much rah-rah positivity for someone who is shattered, raw, feeling lost and overwhelmed. That is what felt harsh about the book. The authors seemed to imply that people going through a divorce need to "pull themselves up by their own bootstraps" by working (hard) through the stages. In those first several months, I could not work on myself or do exercises, and reading through them provided no comfort, just a sense of being inadequate to the task. So I tossed this book in a pile after a quick read triggered a sense of being a party-pooper for not getting with the program. I found Life After Divorce by Wegscheider-Cruse to be helpful and supportive in the early stages of separation/divorce. Now, 9 months on, I'm ready to pick up the Rebuilding book and see what it has to offer now. If you are reeling from the end of a marriage, hang in there. True friends who can listen, enjoy activities with even though you feel broken and sad, are worth more than any book on divorce. It does get better over time.

Dear future customers, August 8th, 2009
I have had this book for almost a month and it is wonderful! When I received in the mail, it was in excellent condition and the delivery was soon after I made my order! I would use Amazon.com over and over again because of the great service and delivery!
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is going through or just got a divorce and is ready to work on their themselves and explore the reason their relationship ended!

Sincerely,
Miss Margret

5 out of 5 stars when you need a good friend...   July 30, 2009

As many of you know, going through a divorce can be (and usually is) a devastating experience. Plenty of people get through them and you know that, but it's hard to believe YOU will get through it.

This book helped me to see this big picture and work through my issues one step at a time. It gave me hope. That to me was worth it.

The book was helpful. I like that it didn't try to paint a "flowery" picture. This seems to be a trend in self-helps these days. Not as "tough" as Dr Laura, but definitely firm in a "No BS" way.

I have passed along this book to several friends. The one complaint I hear is that it's too "technical." If you're looking for something that is a little more casual, Why He's Dating Her (Instead of You) - Why He Didn't Commit, Why He Left, and Why You're Still Hooked may be closer to something you'd like. If you're up for something from a professional who knows what he's talking about though, this is an excellent resource.

I believe in reading as much as you can when dealing with a certain situation, especially something as traumatic as divorce. As I always say, "take the good and leave the bad." For me, there was a lot more good here than bad.

5 out of 5 stars Recovery & rebuilding when a relationship is gone   May 17, 2009

This book of work is very simply put together. It is truly designed to help us understand the forces within us that cloud our ability to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I read this through 4 times to be sure to get every last nugget and understanding. With the help of this book and prayer I have been able to move beyond, into recovery and to see a new future. Without this book of knowledge I would have been trapped for a long time in a prison of my own emoitions and self pity. We are not living to practise life before the main event, each minute we have here in life is the main event. Grieve, cry, forgive those who have done you wrong, forgive yourself, then move into your future and don't let past bad experiences keep you from being fully alive.

If you have read this then you are most likely searching for answers to a deep pain inside, get this book and rebuild yourself sooner than later.
