good read for the open minded August 4, 2008 Mae Doe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this book. It gave much information and presented different points of view for a seemingly one point of view subject. I appreciated the teaching aspect of this book, which was what I bought it for in the first place and was not disappointed.
Sadly lacking February 21, 2008 Paul Shortis (Orlando) 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
I had looked forward to reading a book on dreamwalking, there being so little available in print on this subject, the western tradition first embarked upon by such notables as Madame Blavatsky and Dion fortune sadly has little literature to support it with the early death of the latter.
So it was that when I first heard of a new tome on this subject I expected something of much deeper research and understanding, having been a dreamwalker since very early childhood, sadly I was extremely disappointed.
This novel, for it has little substance beyond a fictional work, details childhood steps into dreamwalking with a shallow level of research into Jung and Freud's work which virtually ignored Fortune's further exploration into both the psychological and spiritual meanings that are inherent into an understanding of this discipline.
For others who share Michelle's basic level of knowledge into this realm it makes good light reading for the more advanced it seems there is still a book waiting to emerge.
Dreamwalking from an unusual perspective September 20, 2007 Wulfgirl (Sacramento, California) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I agree with Kotori Distari's review, but just wanted to add a bit more.
I enjoyed the episodes Belanger presented about her childhood and later events related to her dream-walking. I thought they made the book feel more personal. For those who are more interested in theory and techniques to practice, that's in this book too.
I was annoyed that she said she couldn't find much on dreamwalking on the Internet besides what she'd written herself. She must not have looked hard enough or maybe didn't try looking for "dream walking", "psychic dreams", "shared dreams", "shamanic dreams" or a whole range of other phrases that will eventually lead one to realize this activity has been going on from the beginning of human civilization. Native shamans dreamwalk as part of their spiritual work. Robert Moss (another author on extraordinary dream practices) mentions doing it too. Since Belanger says in this book that she attended an Association for the Study of Dreams conference, she should display a better knowledge of the researchers and practitioners of this ability, and she should have put some of this background into her end notes or bibliography.
(Edit note: Belanger does not say or imply that she attended an ASD conference. That was my mistake. Please see the comments to this review.)
That said, however, I think this book is invaluable for those who may be both dreamwalkers and vampires, because no other book I know of looks at dreamwalking from the perspective of a psychic vampire and gives advice not only on how to dreamwalk, but on how Not to dreamwalk when you think you might end up feeding on someone you don't want to feed upon. This is a good book for anyone interested in this subject, but it's especially important for some people who may already be practicing this ability, consciously or subconsciously.
Interesting New Perspective! September 13, 2007 Kotori Distari (GA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book covers a variety of aspects on the topic of dreamwalking. A more focused look on the various areas that come into play such as learning about one's dreams, how to take a more active roll in having more lucid dreams, remembering dreams, and more. She includes various methods to help one new to the topic as well as individuals more familiar with the subject matter. Also noted within this book are some of her personal experiences and a bit of history in relation to other developments in general about dreams as knowledge has grown over the years.
A very good read for anyone interested in dreams in general or on the topic of dreamwalking. The layout flows nicely from chapter to chapter in an order that allows the reader to progressively expand their individual understanding along with what's presented in this book.
A wonderful read October 18, 2006 Corvis Nocturnum (Indiana) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Dreamwalking is a fascinating read. Not only is it a stand alone work, it continues the ideas from the Psychic Vampire Codex in greater detail, rich with stories from the authors past. Michelle Belanger certainly knows how to entertain, educate, and weaves an engrossing tale of personal experiences, history, and helpful exercises. A must have!
