Product Description "[A] solid how-to book...For amateur dream researchers, this is a must." WHOLE EARTH REVIEW This book goes far beyond the confines of pop dream psychology, establishing a scientifically researched framework for using lucid dreaming--that is, consciously influencing the outcome of your dreams. Based on Dr. Stephen LaBerge's extensive laboratory work at Stanford University mapping mind/body relationships during the dream state, as well as the teachings of Tibetan dream yogis and the work of other scientists, including German psycholgist Paul Tholey, this practical workbook will show you how to use your dreams to: Solve problems; Gain greater confidence; improve creativity, and more.

Frustrated With the Reductionism January 23, 2010 P. R THOMPSON (Brooklyn NY) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Overall, I liked the book but was really frustrated with the author's conclusions that lucid dreams can all be explained away as just mere brain activity: The typical scientific reductionism.
Powerful! July 9, 2009 Felicity Barrington (The Wet Coast) Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming - is a key book for novices seeking to learn the ability to travel outside the body. Some see Lucid Dreaming as an end itself - I see it as a step to the ability to reach further realms. Each person who truly desires and is willing to follow the methods can achieve results. Some faster than others, but this book, with its practical methods, ideas and instructions will lead you to lucid dreaming. The steps are here; follow them for at least a 3 month period to get results and don't give up. I can recommend some further books for those who feel they are beyond the baby steps or want to read up on getting there faster or further. All are good, and can speed up your work.

Fascinating subject from a scientific perspective May 14, 2009 Michael R. Mac Donald (Benicia, CA) This is a decent overview and guidebook to lucid dreaming, from a researcher who appears to be well respected and is approaching a new-age-ish subject from a scientific perspective.
The reason I don't rate this book higher is that it seems to be BOTH an overview and a guidebook, with no distinction in format or presentation. I personally found that I had trouble locating the intellectual information on research, theories, and implications when I wanted those, and the same with the how-to when I wanted that.
I would advise those interested in this subject to stick to Dr. LaBerge's writings, and any similar authors grounded in scientific principles. The topic is rife with anecdotes and personal opinions; take advantage of anyone's objective research when you can.
A fascinating subject. February 14, 2009 M. King 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lucid dreaming is one of the most unusual and interesting things I've ever learned about. This book teaches you everything you need to know and more about how to have them. To give you an example of how powerful the methods are, think about this: It has been over a year since I have actively practiced the techniques I learned in this book, and I still have lucid dreams several times a week. This is a well written and fascinating book, I highly recommend it.
Worthy book, worth the effort. February 2, 2009 R. Sanderlin 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have only read the first two chapters and already found benefits! Reading the fundamentals and starting a dream journal has taken me from hardly ever remembering a dream to remembering most every night and increasing dream recall extensively! I can only imagine the results of delving into the practice and working on lucidity. This book is not a quick fix. It is based on sound principles requiring concentration and effort on your part. Guaranteed to be helpful as long as you dedicate time to practice.
