Very good book with many practical examples October 5, 2006 Patrick D. Goonan (Pleasanton, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a BIG fan of Wendy Enelow. She has a deep knowledge of resume writing and this particular book gives many good examples of styles and formats that are appropriate for the $100,000+ per year job seekers. While this book is short on specific instructions, it illustrates important points through well chosen examples. I think the assumption here is that anyone looking for a $100,000+ year job already has pretty good resume writing skills. I agree with the other review that there are more in-depth studies of how to put together an executive resume. However, given the size of the sale one is trying to land in this market, it probably pays to have a number of texts on the subject and take away the best from each. Wendy Enelow has also written many other books on resume writing that emphasize different markets, skills and situations. I haven't seen one of her books that haven't been valuable in this important area. In fact, I recommend her books the most to my own clients who are in the process of doing career transitions.
This is a great book June 26, 2000 D. Kirsch (San Francisco, CA United States) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is the best resume book I have ever seen. Perhaps the best feedback I have about this book is when I was job hunting last time, during interviews, people commented on how well my resume was formatted. What more do you want? In fact, I have passed it on to friends and colleagues. The reason that I found it so helpful is the way the author formats resumes. I would agree with the previous review that there is no indepth discussion of every section of a resume, but there is clearly enough to get the basic idea -- which is all you need. I bought this book a few years ago when I was job hunting and thought it was the best one in the bookstore. Because I am rewritting my resume again, I went to a bookstore and looked at all the resume books again and thought that this was the best book one the shelf. I highly recommend it.
Great title, no substance. August 23, 1998 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
The book's title is one that gets your attention but the commentary regarding resume writting is novice at best. I suggest you buy Asher's Bible of Executive Resumes if you want an in depth discussion and candid breakdown of the resume writting process. The only redeeming quality of this book is it has alot of examples.
