Great Example Book of Cover Letters July 8, 2008 Kristen A. Jacoway (South Carolina) Jay Block has done an excellent job of pulling together great examples of cover letters that cross various industries and careers. It is indexed, so finding examples in certain positions or industries are easy to find.
This book rocks! February 6, 2008 K. Darby (atlanta, ga) I love this book. I've used it to get many an interview, and highly recommend it to my friends and to you. It's good for college students who have just graduated because there are lots of examples and they point out the best parts of each letter. If used correctly, it can become your best guide. I've particulary found the chapters on touchy subjects like "Internal Letters" and "Letters of Decline" helpful because there aren't a lot of examples or advice on topics like those. For $10, you just can't beat it. Thats a better price that what I paid at the bookstore.
Helpful for the cover letter 'rookie' January 26, 2007 K. Williams (Pittsburgh, PA USA) 101 Best Cover Letters is a good buy if you are struggling with putting together just the right words for a great cover letter. Gives some "common sense" tips, but also a variety of styles (i.e. responding to classified ad, how to incorporate a reference, specific careers) for your letter. Obviously you still have to make your cover leter your own, but this book definitely helps get the wheels turning.
101 Flattering cover letters for sycophants June 16, 2006 L. Wick 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
The example letters are uniformly dreadful. Marginal grammar and usage combine with a sacherine style aimed at kissing up to second-raters. These letters are guaranteed to repell anyone with whom one would really like to work.
GREAT Book, BUT NOT in Digital Format February 12, 2004 Terry Lee Jones (Snoqualmie, WA United States) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
Great examples of cover letters with explanation of what makes them great, but I only know this because I bought the printed version after not being able to read the examples AT ALL in the downloaded digital version. I even tried reading on a 19" high resolution monitor using the PC version of Microsoft Reader, .The problem is that even though Microsoft Reader allows one to change the fonts of the print to suit the reader, scanned images like ALL the cover letter examples are not scalable, so it is impossible to distinguish an e from an o, l from an i, and so on. Amazon should not sell books with graphics and fixed images in digital format, or at least should warn customers of the issue before they pay to download a book in digital format that has over 70% in unscalable, unreadable format.
