Product Description

Clinton Kelly won't just revamp your wardrobe -- he'll revamp your life!

The huddled masses yearn to be fabulous, and finally Clinton Kelly is heeding their call. As co-host of TLC's popular What Not to Wear, he regularly transforms dumpy fashion disasters into traffic-stopping, get-an-instant-promotion, reignite-the-passion-in-that-relationship makeovers. But fabulousness doesn't stop with style. Let's face it: you might look good, but if you're chomping on that crudite with your mouth wide open, nobody at the party will talk to you -- even if you can explain to them what crudite actually is.

Of course, the keys to being better than everyone else aren't always so obvious. Don't worry; Clinton's here to help.

  • How do you make a flat butt look big and a big butt look flat?
  • What's the one trick that will slim down your entire silhouette and make your ta-tas look va-va-voom?
  • How do you eat an oyster without getting kicked out of the best restaurant in town?
  • What's the grammatically correct form of "lay" to use when propositioning a Baldwin brother?

He'll teach you how to look your best, sound your smartest, use the manners your momma taught you, poach an egg, fix a perfect gin and tonic, throw the most popular parties (and top the guest list at other soirees), make your home the envy of your neighbors, and generally be the fabulous person you always knew you could be.

From the three style criteria he uses to dress any shape for any occasion, to his eloquent approach to appreciation, to his four must-memorize recipes for whipping up a last-minute meal, Clinton Kelly shares it all in Freakin' Fabulous.

5 out of 5 stars Freakin' Fabulous Indeed   November 20, 2008
Cathy Stucker (Sugar Land, TX USA)
Clinton Kelly is smart and funny, and his voice comes through loud and clear in this book. If you are a fan of "What Not to Wear," you will hear Clinton's voice as you read.

"Freakin' Fabulous" is an easy and entertaining read, and it is full of great tips to help you do just about everything, well, fabulously. Specifically, Clinton takes readers through how to dress, speak, behave, eat, drink, entertain and decorate fabulously.

If the book has one weakness, it is the recipes. I am not really a foie gras kind of girl; however, the spiced sweet potato fries and the mac and cheese look like they would be worth a try.

All sections of the book contain lots of tips with helpful (and often funny) examples that make them easy to remember.

The section on wines includes a helpful chart for pairing wines with foods, as well as "cheat sheets" with information about red and white wines.

On "What Not to Wear," Clinton and Stacy give rules for dressing. Clinton expands the rules to cover every aspect of life, so that you, too, can be freakin' fabulous.

4 out of 5 stars Good advice presented in a fun way.   November 20, 2008

I'd never watched What Not to Wear, so I didn't know what to expect from this book, but, being a midwest farm girl, I thought I might be able to use a little help. First off, at 43, I felt like maybe I was a little too old for the book, but I thought that someone like my 23 year old daughter would be able to get more from it. Aside from that, I enjoyed the book. It had useful information about fashion, including
how to dress to best show off (or disguise!) your body type, dressing for different occasions, and how to find a great shoe. Some of the other topics covered were grammar, cooking, manners, and decorating. The book itself was flashy, colorful and well organized. I enjoy a bit of snarkiness, and Kelly is full of it!

4 out of 5 stars How to have class   November 19, 2008
Klyde (Yakima, WA USA)
I welcome any advice on having more class. Especially any advice that is as fun to receive as this book was to read. Anyone can have class and style, no matter what your age, race, income level, or beauty. Clinton discusses dressing well, having good manners, treating others with respect, knowing important social protocols, cooking, entertaining, and decorating. This tongue-in-cheek book is a pleasure to peruse as well as study.

I know his personality from his TV show What Not to Wear, so I had an idea of what to expect. He gives us golden advice while not taking himself to seriously. I live in a town in the Pacific Northwest, and although not unsophisticated, we are a mecca of casual. I learned a few things about protocol while dining out and even how to eat spaghetti (it's okay to bite of dangling noodles and let them fall). He gives us 4 must-memorize recipes in order to feel prepared anytime a meal needs whipping up.

About 1/3 of the book is filled with "fabulous" recipes for food and drinks, which I didn't care as much about, but will use as reference when I am a host. A few times while reading, I felt like the content was directed mostly toward highbrow people living in cities who like to entertain small groups. But Clinton seems to be able to boil down the essentials of good taste into yummy bite-sized morsels for us all to enjoy and appreciate. Highly recommended reading.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE Clinton- and this book!   November 18, 2008
Leda's Grandma (Draper, VA USA)
I love Clinton and the TLC show What Not To Wear. If you watch the show and enjoy Clinton's humor you will enjoy this book. The book contains a lot of good information about decorating, entertaining- even recipes. The tips in the book are real, from how to dress certain body types to grammar lessons; and I'm sure you could pick them up in any number of places. What makes this book stand out is the delivery. As I was reading some of the "one liners" and asides Clinton makes it was almost as if I could hear him saying them! They are hilarious, I found myself laughing out loud quite often while reading.
I would highly recommend this book for the entertainment value alone with the great advice being a huge bonus!

4 out of 5 stars It's about Freakin' Time . . .   November 17, 2008
Hikari (Lima, OH USA)
That Clinton Kelly got a chance to be in the spotlight. I feel at times he is in danger of being overshadowed by his much louder and more ubiquitous co-host Stacy London on "What Not to Wear". Which is a freakin' shame, since Clinton is genuinely funny. Here he displays his mastery of All that is Fabulous in kind of a one-man Queer Eye troupe: from clothes to decor to fabulous cocktails to correct grammatical usage, he's got them all covered single-handedly. Clinton seems like he'd be a very entertaining friend, and is unusual in that the ranks of the Manhattan Fabulous so rarely include lessons on how to treat people with kindness and decency. It's nice to see that Clinton hasn't forgotten his roots in the pursuit of being fabulous. I got several belly laughs as well as some useful recipes for cocktail nibbles (finally found out what 'rumaki' is--think I'll take a pass(sorry, Clinton). This would be an excellent housewarming gift for someone who aspires to fabulousness, though whether it stands up to repeat readings depends largely on how many cocktail parties one plans to throw. It will make any coffee table it adorns more fabulous, though one could purchase a whole bunch of "WNTW" downloads for the price. In any event, thanks for the book, Clinton--you're fabulous!
