way too young for 8-year-olds! December 11, 2008 Rebecca Schacht (Seattle, WA United States) This book is supposed to be for 4- to 8-year-olds. It's actually for children much younger than 8. I'd say 5 to early 6 is the maximum age. I ordered it for my nephew who is almost 7, and it is way too young for him. Wish I'd known - now it's too late to order something else for him from Amazon and get it in time for X-mas without paying for expedited shipping!
Excellent! March 1, 2008 Abigail Fox (PA) My son does not particularly enjoy reading himself, but this book series is one that he happily read. I highly recommend for any child that is interested in animals and some of the gross and interesting things that they do. We went to the zoo after reading this series too and my son had a ball seeing some of the animals from this series. He thinks these books are cool.
Great book for the young reader January 28, 2008 M. Tilelli (Utah, USA) You can tell a good book by how quickly it becomes mangled. This book was and still is read often. Hopefully it will last until all the kids out grow it.
freaky and fun February 11, 2007 Darice L. Moore (Largo, FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Freak Out! is one of my daughter's favorite books. This introduction to some of the stranger animals that share our planet -- from pink dolphins to blue-tongued skinks -- is chock full of interesting information and illustrations.
Engaging and cool! June 21, 2006 G. Smith (Virginia, USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My daughter found this book to be both engaging and cool. She loves animals, and the neat thing about this book is that she learns about some very unusual ones and their bizarre and exotic qualities. She enjoys learning about the animals as well as seeing the vibrant illustrations that go with them. As an adult, I found this book to be well researched and clearly written. It's the kind of book I can easily read multiple times and not be bored!
