Amazon.com Review
Amazon Best of the Month, December 2008: Danny Gregory's An Illustrated Life is a visual delight of color and texture--a funky and frenetic "book about books people have made," perfect for chronic doodlers, journalers, and art lovers. Sharing vibrant excerpts from the notebooks of 50 illustrators, artists, and designers, each accompanied by an introduction by the artist, it's a gorgeous, intimate exploration of the creative process. Gregory's passion for the "illustrated journal" is infectious--for him, artist's sketchbooks represent a nonthreatening place to record "risks, mistakes, regrets, thoughts, lessons, and dreams." Whether you are charmed by the illustrations of Amanda Kavanagh, or intimidated by the musings of Stefan Sagmeister, poring over this eclectic group of fledgling and famous "artists" will inspire you to tackle an illustrated journal of your own. --Daphne

5 out of 5 stars a treasure   January 3, 2009
L. Velarde (San Diego, CA)
This book is a treasure to browse through or to dissect page after page. I enjoyed going through every page and digesting it slowly. Reading about other artists and how they interact with their sketchbooks and taking a peek inside their personal pages was a pleasure. I recommend this book for the beginner as well as the professional. It will definitely inspire you.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional, Incredible, Words cannot express...   January 2, 2009
ToWrite (San Jose, CA)
Danny Gregory's book is a jewel among jewels! It is jam packed with far more than mere words and pictures; this kind of inspiration doesn't come along very often! If you've always wanted to sketch or draw or scribble, this book doesn't merely tell you how; it shows the incredible prolific results of others' efforts. If you've ever felt the pages of a blank book and dreamed of what it could hold of your life, you owe it to yourself to experience this book.

I'm almost finished with my first round in Danny Gregory's new book and find that I'm a little sad that it doesn't carry on for more than its 266 pages. However, I know I'll return to it a thousand times for reference; another honor to its author will be how tattered it becomes!
