Product Description
Called "vigilantes" by President Bush but cheered on by millions of Americans concerned over decades of uncontrolled illegal immigration the all-volunteer Minuteman Project was founded in 2004 by decorated Marine veteran Jim Gilchrist. Armed with only binoculars and cell phones, Gilchrist and his fellow patriots proved that America's porous borders could be successfully guarded, and in the process set off a national debate on an issue the Federal government had long ignored.

5 out of 5 stars THIS WILL FRIGHTEN YOU   January 30, 2008

GILCHRIST AND CROSI HAVE PRESENTED ALL ASPECTS OF THE DIFFICULT PROBLEM WE ARE HAVING WITH ALIENS, MAINLY THOSE WE CALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. SINCE READING THIS BOOK I HAVE READ ABOUT SEVERAL GOVERNORS WHO ARE HAVING FINANCIAL PROBLEMS DUE TO THE COST OF WELFARE, HEALTH CARE AND CRIME CAUSED BY THE INFLUX OF THESE ALIENS. TAXPAYER'S MONEY. I HAVE PERSONALLY HEARD THE ALIENS SAY THAT THEY INTEND TO TAKE BACK AMERICA. THIS BOOK IS NOT A FAIRY TALE; IT IS REALITY!

This is the story of a few Americans who finally came to realize that the U. S. government is never going to act to stop illegal immigration into this country, and largely in self-defense, decided to do something themselves. It's all pretty mild at this point: simply watching a segment of the Mexican border for a month. The highly organized illegal immigrant traffickers and drug traffickers simply went to another section of the border and it was business as usual.

Was a point made? It's debatable. Watching a section of the border stops illegal crossings of that section--as long as there is another section of the border open for business. If the entire border were blocked--then what would happen? This is a question that Americans are going to have to answer, because the government is going to continue to do nothing--except reward illegal immigrants by giving them amnesty, free education, free medical care, etc.

What most Americans do not realize is that this is not just a problem for Arizona, New Mexico, etc. "Why don't they just move?" people ask. But illegals are being bussed all over the United States. The busses are waiting for them. They have safe houses. The plans are made. It is just a matter of time before more and more cities are little Loredos.

And for every book trying to enlighten the American people about the crisis of illegal immigration there are half-a-dozen others extolling the virtues of "open borders" and the "rights" of illegal immigrants. There are more websites offering free legal advice to illegals than there are websites about the damages done by illegals. There are organizations active in trying to defeat any Congressman who opposes illegal immigration.

How is such a situation allowed to continue? To wave the magic words "PC" does not tell you anything. What you want to know is why sensible remedies are not being put into place already and why they WILL not be put into place. If you want to know the answer to this baffling question, read While America Sleeps: How Islam, Immigration and Indoctrination Are Destroying America From Within.

1 out of 5 stars "No" to the Minutemen, "Yes" to the Statue of Liberty   March 30, 2007

The last thing this country needs is a vigilante group of nativists skulking around the border.
Interestingly, 40% of people who are here illegally came here legally, and then overstayed their student, tourist or work visas. Hanging around the border, and spending billions of US tax dollars on a hi-tech fence, drones, stadium flood lights and detention centers won't change matters. If we want to lessen the human tragedy that is economic dislocation, we need comprehensive trade policy reform. We also need to apologize and pay reparations for the military interventions, and CIA (plus "economic hit men") skullduggery that has caused so much suffering throughout the Global South.
Gilchrist's book does not touch on constructive solutions like Fair Trade, and "compensatory funding" like the European Union applies. The EU is in the midst of expanding freedom of movement. Instead of building walls, they invested money in jobs and job training in the EU's poorer countries (Greece, Portugal, Spain) to avoid a large migration to the richer nations. It has worked so well that some people from the poorer nations who had migrated earlier are moving back to their home countries.

I'm happy to see immigrants and their allies organizing to expand their rights, while the Minutemen struggle with infighting and scandals. Hopefully, civic organizations like "Global Exchange" and "Border Links" will start to receive the sort of publicity "The Minutemen" have been given.

5 out of 5 stars This book makes you really fear for our future!   February 13, 2007

A very accurate and disturbing portrait of the future of this country if immigration laws are not enforced. Some like to use political correctness in order to silence people like the Minutemen. But, as this book points out, the PC campaign is not succeeding. I can't help but to be impressed by people like Jim and the Minutemen. Since border and interior security has been pretty much abandoned by the government, the Minutemen are our first line of defense, maybe the only defense, against the illegal alien invasion. Pressure mostly from big business (e.g. Bank of America and it's policy of giving financial products to illegal immigrants) is to blame for this state that we find ourselves. Jim dares ask the very un-PC question that if we are a nation of laws, why doesn't our government enforce them? They did create these laws in the first place.

Jim and the Minutemen bring up issues that expose the hypocrisy of both the government (from the local level to the federal) and the pro-illegal left. There are so many barriers that the Minutemen face, but thank God, rationality and the truth is on their side!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview of Immigration   February 5, 2007

I was expecting Minutemen to be more specifically about the group of Americans who've taken up arms -- in this case, lawn chairs and binoculars -- to save our nation from invasion. While it does cover the all volunteer organization, it's also a comprehensive review of the big picture regarding illegal immigration. Jim Gilchrist and Jerome Corsi do a fantastic of giving us the big picture that explains why our government refuses to take meaningful action to secure America's borders. They go deeper than most other books on the subject and talk about how corrupt business executives recruit slave labor from Mexico, and even more outrageous, how our own government is planning what is basically a North American Union to merge the US, Canada, and Mexico. This serves to really explain why our borders remain porous over five years since 9/11 even though terrorists entering our southern border is a real threat. It also talks about the drug smuggling and human trafficking going on, and how many people are getting a piece of the action.

It's a very inspiring book showing how a group of concerned everyday Americans can take up the fight against anarchy and corruption. With a tenacity not seen since our founding fathers took up arms, Jim Gilchrist has refused to back down from the corporate supremacists, ethnic lobbyists, and liberal/neoconservative politicians who would all benefit from keeping the drugs and humans flowing across our porous borders. While I admire Jim Gilchrist's heroic service in Vietnam, with the Minuteman Project he's gone above and beyond the call of duty to truly become a modern day incarnation of the Minutemen of old.

Highly recommended.
